Surge in U.S. Troops to Iraq?

Prevent the Temporary Increase of U.S. Troops in Iraq

Support the Withdrawal of U.S. Troops

Dear Carol,

By next week President Bush will announce his "new strategy" in Iraq. One idea under consideration is to increase U.S. troop strength in a "temporary surge" of additional armed services.

According to recent CNN and Los Angeles Times Bloomberg Polls, Americans are at odds with the Bush Administration's Iraq War policies:

  • 70% disapprove of how President Bush is handling Iraq
  • 67% oppose the War in Iraq
  • 54% support withdrawal of all troops by December 2007
  • Only 11% of Americans support a troop increase
  • 64% think that the U.S. should talk directly with Iran and Syria about the future of Iraq

Another Mother for Peace thinks that the 110th Congress - which convened on January 4 - should act on the mandate demanded by the American electorate last November.

Another Mother for Peace urges you to contact the following Congressional committee chairs and leaders. Tell them:

  • The Iraq War is not healthy for children and other living things
  • Withdraw U.S. troops
  • Do not support temporary troop "surges"
  • Support diplomatic efforts with Iraq's regional neighbors to achieve consensus for stability in Iraq

Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House

Harry Reid, Senate Democratic Leader

Mitch McConnell, Senate Republican Leader

Joseph Biden, Senate Foreign Relations Committee

Tom Lantos, House International Relations Committee

Carl Levin, Senate Armed Services Committee

Ike Skelton, House Armed Services Committee
